Model selection is one of the central issues in the application of statistical methods. It includes comparison of two models, variable selection in linear and generalized linear models, and model checking via goodness of fit tests as well as diagnostic statistics and plots. In several papers in survival analysis, Professors Klein and Zhang have addressed such model selection. Professor Laud has proposed predictive methods for model selection in parametric linear and generalized linear models.
